Stamford CT looking S/SE towards Port Jefferson NY on 12/13/24 at approx 1030PM 

Initial post was taken down due to lack of time stamp and location by mods? Sorry newish to Reddit. View is from Stamford CT looking South/southeast in the direction of Huntington/Port Jeff, pulled up at a beach to watch the show after work. Very interesting watching them form different shapes and patterns, some of them changing colors, seeming to disappear and new ones pop into view out of nowhere.

Lots of comments saying planes in holding pattern before coming in for landing at JFK which is quite a bit to the west. Grew up near Logan just north of Boston and a bit of an aviation nerd. Watching these lights move and change for about an hour I was fairly certain they weren’t planes, they moved often in sync with each other in formation before breaking apart and coming back together in a different formation. Especially seeing similar objects in similar patterns in other areas across the horizon. 

Going back tomorrow after work, I’ll try and do a better job documenting or maybe proving these were planes…we’ll see
