Flash phenomenona

So I had a really weird experience earlier while walking with my dog, I stopped for him to sniff around and out of nowhere I saw like a big flash (like someone turned on a flashlight in front of you) from one point that I think might be Northwest. I looked up and even saw like the flash dying and tried to look around and didn't see anything. 

So, I come back home and forgot to tell my mom about it, after like 30min or so, my mom goes outside to look for a cricket that is getting loud, then she looks at the Moon and sees a weird cloud around the top of it and calls me to look at it. And while looking next to her, she saw the same flash I saw, but this time was South, the same thing but she said like a sparkle after. And I told her about it and explained what I saw and she confirmed. 

The weirdest thing is we went inside, she went to drink water, grabbed a cup of glass and it cracked in her hand. 

I don't know what we saw and I don't know if the cracked cup was related but it was weird, I'm still in disbelief.
