While walking on a road in Tonga, one night, & looking up at the sky, we saw a red light moving horizontally from left to right across the night sky.

At first it looked like it might be a plane, as it was very high up, but no lights were "blinking" - just a steady red light.  Then after moving for a minute or so it just STOPPED, stayed in that position for about 20-30 seconds & then "shot" straight up into the sky & disappeared from sight at a very high rate of speed.  
This was observed by 2 friends, a Canadian plumber/pipe fitter & an American student.  We met a stranger on that road who saw the same thing.
