After turning south on highway 285 towards Vaughn, New Mexico, after dark, some miles south of Clines Corners, I seen the following:

NARRATIVE

From out of my driver’s side window, out of the east, a meteor entered earth's atmosphere, making a bright trail of light across the sky east towards the west.  Just as my sight of it would have transferred from my driver’s window to my front windshield, it changed into a tear drop of flame and fell straight towards the ground.  
Just before it hit the ground, it again changed into the typical saucer shape and traversed across my front windshield, until it was blocked by a hill to my right.
I sped up to reach the top of the hill.  I was climbing, but it was out of my sight by the time I reached the top.
