Lights on object, Aircraft nearby

NARRATIVE

Observed 10-12 red lights in a circle, in the area of the big dipper bottom left star of the cup.  We were facing directly north.
The lights stayed in place in that area for at least 5 minutes that I observed, before ever so slowly moving in a westerly direction.
There were no sounds.
There was an aircraft that had a flight path that went in close to the lights.
I was not able to get a picture of the lights.
