Two large parallel red lights

I was driving west on Mission Ave near the community college. I noticed two large clusters of red lights cruising parallel in the sky slightly ahead of me. I could not tell if it was one large craft with lights at each end or two separate lights flying perfectly parallel to each other. The distance between the lights was considerably farther than a very large passenger jet. It was flying very low but I could not hear engine sounds. It seemed to be travelling very slowly...i was driving about 40 mph and it stayed the same distance from me the whole time. Neither of the light clusters were flashing. A smaller passenger was flying perpendicular to it's path. As the lights approached the small plane they just vanished
