looked like a single engine aircraft hovering in in place

Was driving home after work and I saw 4 bright lights sitting hovering in place just above the highway. I thought it looked very strange and opened my window and I saw what looked like a single engine prop plane with 4 very bright lights hovering in place not moving with no noise about 250 feet in the air it continued to hover in my rear view mirror as I past it and I turned around to see if it was still there but it was not, possible I could just need some sleep but it was strange enough to call a family member about it.
