Fading white light in my backyard

I was letting out my dogs in the backyard while looking northwest, I saw a Light, the best thing I could compare it to is a flashlight far in the distance. It moved southwest from its position, and faded completely out of existence and blended with the sky. It could be a airplane that went behind a cloud near it,
But I waited and never saw the thing again. I thought most stories were made up but I swear to my grave that I saw that thing.
