6 or more flying craft moving extremely fast and capable of changing direction quickly. Emitted weird light.

Went to cosmic campground to watch meteor shower. Noticed what we first thought to be helicopters on the NE horizon, maybe 20 miles away. Looking at a map later we decided they would have been flying near Eagle Peak. From about midnight till 2am we watched these lights- several flying crafts that had speed and ability to change direction inconsistent with helicopters or army jets. They would speed up, change direction, slow down, hover, and drop very quickly. They were staying in one specific area, as if surveying a canyon. Sometimes they would fly in pairs, other times no formation. Usually we could only see 2 or 3 at a time but briefly saw as many as 6 at once. They emitted an odd light that would dim and get brighter, and then disappear for several minutes. We watched for 2 hours trying to come up with a logical explanation, and could not. A few commercial planes passed by the area, and the lights became inactive while planes were in the vicinity. I wouldn’t say that there were lights on the objects as much as they created light, more like an aura. The hue of the lights changed, but not rapidly. They were for the most part white lights, but at times had orange or blue hues.
