Copper cigar-shaped object in early 1950's.

My father, who is now 87 years old, stated that he saw a copper colored cigar-shaped craft above the highway at the Oklahoma/Texas border back in the early 1950's.  
He was driving my mother and older brothers, who were babies at the time.  Because my mother was  distracted, she did not see the object; however, my father pulled the car over, jumped out and watched the craft as it hovered for awhile, and then sped away at lightspeed.  
He has a good memory, and has always repeated this story.  He says it was in broad daylight, and that he read in the newspaper later that other people reported seeing a similar object in the area.  
He is a definite UFO believer!
