About 25 bright red lights west of Wichita

Wichita, KS. I stepped out of my house about 8:30pm.  
I looked west and saw about 25 bright red lights far off in the sky.  The looked like very bright red stars.  
I thought they might be planes or helicopters but there was too many flying too close together.  
I noticed that a few of them dimmed till they were not visible so I knew they were not planes since planes do not turn their lights off.  
I went inside to get my girlfriend and came out a few minutes later.  There was about 15 lights left by then.  
She had no idea what the lights could be. 
They were all gradually heading south, some moving faster than others.  I looked down my street and saw several neighbors standing outside all staring at these lights.  
After about 15 minutes, it dawned on my to try a picture with my phone.  There was about 4 or 5 lights left by then.  
These lights do appear in the picture, though one still can't make out what they are.  
I do not understand why this didn't make the local news that night.  I saw a lot of people staring at these lights on my street alone.  There must have been hundreds of people who saw these.
It didn't make the news, I suspect, because probably none of the witnesses reported it to the news.  PD
