Orange disk in night sky

My best friend and I, both then 8 yrs. old, were huddled behind a bush in front of the house of a neighborhood girl we were teasing.  Suddenly my friend tapped me on the shoulder.  I turned and saw an oval orange light coming from the west.  We watched it until it disappeared over the Piney Hills, east of town.  
It travelled horizontally, at I would guess the altitude of a light plane.  It was a very distinct oval; no haze, no trail, no sound.  The distance between the hilltops east and west that nestle this little valley town is probably about 15 miles, so the object was going at a pretty good clip.  
Our parents "pooh-poohed" this of course, but changed their minds a couple of days later when the Coloorado Springs paper carried reports of sightings that same night around the same time (tho' describing green, blue, etc. in addition to orange) from the Colo. Springs area, east of Woodland Park, and further east of Colo. Springs.

I want to amend a report: Colorado 8/15/55 Woodland Park.  I neglected to mention it was night, I thought around 20:00.  However, the report above mine, Colorado 8/15/56 Colorado Springs, was probably the same sighting.  That reporter said he saw no reports about it, though there were report in the Colo. Springs Gazette the next day.  
I probably saw the object in Woodland Park, which is 20 miles west of Colo. Springs, around 21:15--21:30 and they saw it (and apparently other objects), travelling east, shortly thereafter.  I was probably wrong about the date, August, but 1956 not 1955.  I heard you mention the Colo. Springs report on Coast to Coast about three weeks ago.  That's what prompted me to look at my report.
